    Baghdad today - Baghdad
Today, Monday (April 15, 2024), the Parliamentary Foreign Relations Committee revealed challenges and important points in the visit of Prime Minister Muhammad Shia al-Sudani to Washington, while indicating that if these points were achieved, they would lead to a different situation and would be a “turning point” in Iraqi-American relations. .
Committee member Abbas al-Jubouri said in an interview with "Baghdad Today", "The Sudanese visit to the United States, accompanied by a high-ranking government delegation specializing in multiple files, in light of the complex circumstances taking place in the Middle East region, is important, and it is moving towards important points that, if achieved, will lead to a different situation and set new paths." Because of the nature of the relationship between Baghdad and Washington.”
He added, "The relationship between Iraq and America will inevitably differ after the Sudanese visit, especially since it comes within the framework of efforts to open up in the economic, political, and financial dimensions, resolve the dollar file, and push efforts to stabilize it in the parallel market, not to mention the security scene, which will take its share in the bilateral discussions."
He expected that "the Sudanese visit will be a resounding success despite the circumstances surrounding the country and will push for independence of decision-making through managing negotiations with Washington on important files," pointing out that "revitalizing economic growth and addressing financial paths are important files that will be at the forefront of what is being discussed with the American leaders."
Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani met this Monday evening (April 15, 2024) with US President Joseph Biden at the White House in Washington, DC.
Al-Sudani said during a televised interview, according to what was reported by the official channel, followed by “Baghdad Al-Youm”: “We are working to move from the military relationship to a full partnership with the United States, and our visit to Washington comes at a sensitive and delicate time, and has importance in the history of the relationship between the two countries.”
He added, "The war against ISIS was the basis of cooperation between Iraq and the United States, and our victory over the terrorist organization is important and was achieved through the sacrifices of Iraqis and the support of friends."
Al-Sudani stressed, "Iraq is in the process of recovery and is witnessing development in service projects," noting that "we will discuss sustainable partnership on the basis of the strategic framework agreement."
He stressed: "We will adhere to the outcomes of the Supreme Coordination Committee between Iraq and the United States," and said: "My government is serious about implementing this agreement."
Al-Sudani explained: “My presence in Washington brings with it the desire to advance the reality of Iraq and provide services, and we are committed to various issues, especially what is happening in the region.”
He said, "We agree on the principles of international law, and we reject any attack on civilians, especially children and women."
The Prime Minister added, "We are very concerned about stopping the devastating war in Gaza, and we hope that all parties concerned will adhere to restraint and we want to stop the expansion of the conflict in the region."
Al-Sudani pledged to "commit to protecting diplomatic missions, and working to move from a military relationship to a full partnership with the United States."
