[size=13]Explosions target oil field in Kirkuk[/size]
Kirkuk: An explosion was reported at an oilfield in Kirkuk early Wednesday in the latest attack on the energy sector in the oil-rich province. NRT said a blast went off at oil well number 34 at the Havana oilfield southwest of Kirkuk early in the day. Local authorities reported two improvised explosive devices (IEDs) went off at the site shortly before 6 a.m. local time. No one has yet claimed responsibility of the attack at the oil field which is under the control of the Kurdistan Regional Government’s (KRG) Ministry of Natural Resources. This is not the first time oil pipelines and wells in Kirkuk province have been targeted by explosions this year. |
[size=13]Dutch PM arrives in Iraqi Kurdistan[/size]
Erbil: Mark Rutte, the PM of the Netherlands, arrived in Iraqi Kurdistan capital city of Erbil on Tuesday night. Rutte was welcomed by the Iraqi Kurdistan PM Nechirvan Barzani and Interim Minister of Peshmerga Affairs, Karim Sinjari as he arrived at Erbil International Airport, local media reported. Rutte is expected to meet Massoud Barzani and other Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) officials. The Dutch premier was in Baghdad before arriving in the region, where he met with Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al Abadi. The Netherlands has trained Peshmerga troops and supplied equipment such as radios, bomb disposal equipment, helmets and vests.

A delegation from Syrian Kurdistan [Rojava] was blocked by KDP at border crossing in Iraqi Kurdistan on their way to the World Social Forum in Canada, ANF reported. A delegation from Rojava as representatives of the Democratic Autonomy Administration was invited to this year’s World Social Forum in Canada. The delegation is headed by Sînem Mihemed, the Rojava representative in Europe. The Rojava delegation on their way to Canada was blocked by KDP officials at the Sêmalka Border Crossing between Rojava and Iraqi Kurdistan. |
[size=13]Peshmerga commander warns Shiite militias a threat to Kurds[/size]
Sulaimani: A Peshmerga commander accused the Shiite militia of making plans to attack Kurds after the war with the Islamic State (IS), an allegation swiftly denied by a militia spokesperson. “Those Shiites that were loved by us are now making plans on how to attack us after Daesh [IS],” said Mahmoud Sangawi, a Peshmerga commander and senior official of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), speaking in Halabja on Tuesday. Sangawi based his accusation on a statement from a Shiite militiaman named Jamal, a member of the Khorasani militia group in Jalwala, who Sangawi met. “I am proud to come and fight you and be killed after Daesh [IS],” Sangawi quoted the Shiite militiaman. Sangawi who is commander of the Peshmerga forces on the Garmaser front in Diyala province urged Kurds to unite in the face of this threat.

Tehran: Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Shamkhani hailed the long-term friendship between Iran and Kurdistan Region, saying that Tehran is prepared to expand its cooperation with the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG). “The Islamic Republic of Iran has long had warm relations with Kurdish groups in Iraq,” Shamkhani said in a meeting with former prime minister of the Iraqi Kurdistan region and PUK leader Barham Ahmad Salih, held in Tehran on Tuesday. |
