Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubair said on Tuesday that Qatar should take several steps to end its support for the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) and the Muslim Brotherhood to restore relations with other major Arab states.
"We have decided to take steps to clarify that there is no excuse," Adel al-Jubeir told reporters in Paris. "No one wants to hurt Qatar, but Qatar has to choose whether to go ahead on another course or path."
Countries such as Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt and Bahrain cut ties with Qatar on Monday, accusing it of supporting terrorism.
Al-Jubeir added that Qatar is undermining the Palestinian Authority and Egypt with its support for Hamas and the Muslim Brotherhood and "hostile media".
Al-Jubeir stressed that he believed that the cost of the economic measures taken against Qatar would convince them to take the right steps.
He explained that the damage that would result from the economic measures taken by some Arab countries against Qatar could persuade them to change their policies, including with regard to extremist groups.
"We believe that reason and logic will convince Qatar to take the right steps," al-Jubair told reporters.
"The decisions that have been taken have been very strong and will have a very high cost for Qatar and we believe that Qataris do not want to bear that cost."
Qatari Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman al-Thani told CNN that Qatar was ready to hold a dialogue to resolve the crisis with its neighbors in the Gulf.
The minister said in an interview with CNN on Tuesday that Qatar was ready to sit down and talk.
He added that Qatar believes in diplomacy and wants to promote peace in the Middle East and is fighting terrorism.
He said that his country was not a great power and did not believe in resolving the situation.
He stressed that Qatar, based on past experiences, has adopted a strategic program aimed at not affecting the daily lives of citizens and residents, nor current and future projects of the state. He stressed that the Qatari authorities seek to achieve the national vision of the state independently of all political circumstances.
The Qatari foreign minister stressed that the escalation against Qatar was preceded by an unprecedented campaign of incitement, which included abuses of symbols of the state did not meet Doha similarly, but chose to deal with the matter wisely.
Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates and Egypt announced early on Monday that they had cut off diplomatic ties with Qatar and asked Qatari diplomats to leave, closing off air and land and sea ports with Doha.
