    The EU Council formally decided to extend economic sanctions against Russia until the end of January next, in a move seen as Russia's foreign it would backfire.

    In a statement issued by the Council on Wednesday, "the Council extended on June 28 imposed on Russian economic sectors until January 31, 2018 economic sanctions."

    For his part, Alexei Meshkov, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister expressed his country's regret the decision of the European Union to extend sanctions, stressing that it is constructive and unable to solve any task set by the European Union in front of him with regard to relations with Russia.

    He Meshkov told reporters: "The independent experts of the European Union countries stressed that sanctions and measures imposed by us in reply shall suffer all the economies of the European Union. What happened from the extension of the sanctions is a matter of regret only."

    Brussels imposed sanctions against persons and full sectors of the Russian economy, against the backdrop of Moscow's position on the Ukrainian crisis and the return of the Crimea to the strength of Russia, in turn, Moscow received a reply actions represented to stop the import of food from countries that showed hostility against it.
