A senior legal source revealed that the Iraqi legislator has decided to resolve the date of the elections formally before February 15 next.
It is scheduled to hold the Iraqi parliament on Thursday, a session to resolve the election law and set a date.
He proposed the Prime Minister Haider Abadi, the date of 12 May next to Parliament, but the Council has not yet reached a compromise formula to resolve the election law or even the budget needed by the Electoral Commission to prepare the process.
The legal source told Ashqaf News, that the commitment comes to ensure that the holding of the ballot on time as provided by Law No. 45 of 2013.
According to sources in the Supreme Judicial Council but not authorized in the statement, "The age of the current parliamentary session ends in accordance with the Constitution on July 1 next and the Constitution requires that the elections be held 45 days before the end of the House of Representatives for his work, a maximum limit on May 15 next "He said.
"The Council of Ministers has no room for postponing its three-day deadline only because it has proposed holding the elections on May 12," he said.
"The law of elections in force No. (45) for 2013 requires that the Council of Ministers in coordination with the Commission to propose the date of the ballot and be ratified by the House of Representatives and then the issuance of a presidential decree on the date specified by the Presidency of the Republic and published in the media 90 days ago as the lowest estimate, "The dates indicate that the date of the election must be officially completed and announced before February 15 next to meet the constitutional timing of the ballot."
Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi refused to postpone the election process. At a time when Sunnis are mobilizing for postponement because of the devastation of their war-ravaged cities and the survival of more than 2.5 million displaced people in the camps.
