(Reuters) - Sources in the US-backed Kurdish People Protection Units in northern Syria said they had reached an agreement with Damascus to get Syrian troops into the Afrin region to help repel the Turkish attack.
But the Syrian government, for its part, did not comment on the agreement.
Ankara considers the units to protect the Kurdish people as a "terrorist group" and an extension of the PKK, but the Kurdish militia denies any direct link to the banned party inside Turkey.
There is no Syrian army presence in the Afrin area at this time.
"The Syrian army will enter the area of Afrin within days and will also be deployed in some border posts," senior Kurdish official Badran Gia Kurd told Reuters.
Nuri Mahmoud, spokesman for the Kurdish People's Protection Units, said in response to a question on the agreement by repeating a statement issued earlier that the Syrian army had not yet responded to appeals to help protect Afrin.
In the event of the implementation of this agreement, the Turkish forces will find themselves fighting in Afrin not only Kurdish fighters but Syrian army forces.
The Syrian army left northern Kurdish areas in 2012. The
DUP forces, backed by Kurdish people's protection units, pushed back into large areas of Syria.
The Kurdish units, which control large parts of northeastern Syria, were an ally of the United States in the war on the duel.
The Democratic Party denies any direct military intervention or political association with the PKK.
"We can cooperate with anyone who helps because world opinion is silent about the brutal crimes committed against them," he said.
"The agreement that was reached did not include any political arrangements, so it could collapse at any time."
"We do not know to what extent this agreement will survive because there are many parties are not satisfied with this agreement and want to fail."
According to Reuters, a Kurdish political official pointed out that Russia may oppose the agreement because it complicates its diplomatic efforts with Turkey
