    [ltr]A senior South Korean delegation of 10 officials met in the first meeting of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un on Monday in Pyongyang.[/ltr]
    [ltr]"A delegation from the country visiting North Korea met with leader Kim Jong-un on Monday in the first meeting of its kind," a South Korean presidential spokesman told Reuters, read by Mawazine News.[/ltr]
    [ltr]"The 10-member delegation, led by Chung Yue Young, head of the National Security Bureau, arrived in Pyongyang earlier on Monday and met with Kim afterwards," he said.[/ltr]
    [ltr]The improvement in inter-Korean relations has raised speculation of future direct talks between Washington and Pyongyang after tensions and mutual insults between Trump and the North Korean leader over months, raising fears of war.[/ltr]
    [ltr]Pyongyang has condemned the upcoming joint military exercises between US and South Korean troops.[/ltr]
    [ltr]The planned exercise could complicate the task after warning a commentary published by North Korea's official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) that Pyongyang would confront the United States if Washington conducted joint military exercises with South Korea.[/ltr]
    [ltr]North Korea confirmed on Saturday its willingness to hold talks with the United States but said it would not sit on preconditions.[/ltr]
    [ltr]"We will not accept dialogue or avoid the military option that the United States is talking about," the Korean Central News Agency quoted a spokesman for the North Korean Foreign Ministry as saying.[/ltr]
    [ltr]The Winter Games in Pyongchang last month strengthened the recent inter-Korean communication after more than a year of tensions over North Korea's missile program and after the sixth and largest nuclear test conducted in violation of UN sanctions.[/ltr]
