Amos Yadlin, head of the former Israeli intelligence division, said the bombing of the Syrian military airport on Monday was a message to Iran that the Israeli air force would not allow the building of an Iranian military force on Syrian soil.
The newspaper Yediot Aharonot quoted Yadlin as saying that Tehran wants to build military bases in Syria, a goal it seeks, while the Israeli army's mission is to exclude Iran from this goal, which threatens Israel's security.
Yadlin noted that the Israeli army would not allow the Syrian army to expand in Syria to extend its influence through the use of chemical weapons in the Duma region, claiming that the aim of the bombing was to respond to the use of chemical weapons by the Syrian regime.
