The US state of Alabama has executed a 83-year-old prisoner convicted of a series of bomb attacks in 1989, making him the most condemned convicted in recent American history.
Officials at the William C. Smith Foundation, Holman Correctional in Atmore that prisoner Walter Mody was executed by injection.
This is the eighth execution carried out in the United States this year.
Moody replaced Johnnickson, 77, when he was executed in Mississippi in December 2005 and was the biggest execution since the US Supreme Court reinstated it in 1976, the death penalty information center said.
Moody was convicted of sending a mail bomb in 1989 that killed Judge Robert Vince, 58, and by sending another bomb that killed Robert Robinson, a Georgia civil rights lawyer.
Prosecutors say Moody sent the bomb to the judge outraged by a previous conviction in 1972 in a bomb case as well, and he sent the other bomb to the lawyer to disperse the investigators' thought.
