The allies called on US President Donald Trump, Newt Gingrich and Rudy Giuliani yesterday to change the regime in Iran, and considered that the possibility of achieving this is now closer than ever after a wave of strikes and demonstrations in the Islamic Republic.
Gingrich, a former speaker of the House of Representatives, and Giuliani, the former mayor of New York, told a gathering of supporters of the Iranian opposition in Paris that Trump should increase pressure on European countries still seeking to deal with Iran despite the re-imposition of sanctions on Tehran. "The only way to secure the region is to replace dictatorship with democracy, that should be our goal," Gingrich said at a gathering of exiled opposition Iranian organizations, led by the banned People's Mujahideen Organization in Iran. "I think there will be joy and celebration if the regime changes," he said.
The former speaker of the House of Representatives said he did not support the arming of the Iranian opposition, stressing that Trump to impose further sanctions after the withdrawal of the United States from the nuclear agreement signed with Iran. Gingrich attacked countries seeking ways to allow their companies to continue to operate in Iran despite the threat of fines for violating US sanctions. "We have to crack down on European governments that refuse to support freedom and democracy," Gingrich said. "We have to insist on being sanctioned again." Giuliani called for a boycott of companies that "continue to deal with this system." Giuliani continued, "Freedom is around the corner," referring to the recent demonstrations in Iran.
