Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi on Saturday chaired a meeting of the National Security Council to discuss the repercussions of the security situation.

Abadi's office said in a press statement that "the Ministerial Council for National Security held an emergency meeting chaired by the Prime Minister and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Haider Abadi to discuss the security situation."

The Prime Minister, Haider Abadi, arrived on Friday morning, to the province of Basra, from the Belgian capital Brussels, where he held a meeting with the security and military leaders in the Basra Operations Command, and heard a detailed report on the conditions of the province.

After that, Abadi met with the governor of Basra, As'ad al-Eidani, and discussed with him to provide the best services to the visual citizen and solve the problems that stand in the way of the implementation of a number of projects for citizens.

The prime minister met with a group of tribesmen in Basra at his residence in the Sheraton Hotel in the center of the province. A local source said that a number of the province's tribesmen and demonstrators refused to meet Abadi in the hotel. They called him to go down to the street to meet them.
