(Reuters) - Eric Prince, the founder of Blackwater, a private military firm with a bad reputation for involvement in war crimes, is carrying out new operations in Iraq, media reports said.
BuzzFeed News published a document issued by the Ministry of Commerce in February last year to register the local branch of the {Frontier Services Group FSG}, founded by Prince in 2014 with Chinese funding.
The site pointed out that the documents he had seen confirm that the company is engaged in activities in southern Iraq.
The news site quoted an informed source that the new office of the company is located in Basra, and refused to comment on the nature of the new activities in the country.
Founded in Hong Kong as a logistics company with an office in Dubai, FSG has also participated in projects in Africa over the past years and has provided logistics and security services to the Beijing One Way One Way initiative.
CITIC, the Chinese government, is the largest investor in Prince Al-Jadida.
According to the site, two members of the board of directors resigned two years ago in protest against the announcement of the transfer of the FSG logistics projects exclusively to security activities as well.
Although Prince told the Financial Times in 2017 that his new company will not be a Chinese version of Blackwater and will not arm its components, FSG today offers its customers the services of armed and unarmed guards, according to its location.
The Democratic member of the US House of Representatives Jan Shakovsky that the news should be a warning to the Iraqi government, which expelled "Blackwater" from the country after the killing of the company's 14 civilians in 2007, when they opened fire indiscriminately in the yard Nsour in Baghdad.
In an interview with Al Jazeera last March, Prince expressed his hope that the FSG would participate in oil projects related to dams for power generation in countries such as Iraq and Pakistan.
