Global health expects a significant increase in the number of people infected with HIV in Iraq

Dr. Adham Ismail, WHO representative in Iraq, said: WHO is in constant contact with the Federal Ministry of Health and regularly provides all the information, guidelines, recommendations, protocols and materials for reporting risks as provided by the WHO Regional Office and WHO headquarters.
He added that: WHO technical teams are doing their best to support the health authorities in their efforts in this regard.
As of March 30, more than 572 confirmed cases of the virus have been reported, 42 deaths, and 143 recovery cases throughout Iraq.
The first confirmed case was reported in Najaf on February 24, followed by four confirmed cases for one family in Kirkuk Governorate, one day later. Most confirmed cases have a travel record to countries where the disease is prevalent, such as Iran, China and Europe.
The World Health Organization continues to closely monitor the situation and intensifies its contacts and coordination with the Federal Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Health in the Kurdistan Region to provide technical and logistical support as possible.
