Today, Wednesday, the Iraqi Minister of Interior, Othman Al-Ghanmi, issued orders to imprison senior officers in connection with a terrorist attack by "ISIS" near [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]the Iraqi-Saudi border .
Iraqi local media quoted security sources as saying that the Minister of Interior decided to arrest 3 high-ranking officers and were placed in prison, due to an attack by the terrorist organization " [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]ISIS " on a checkpoint in the border region of Arar with Saudi Arabia.

She pointed out that the officers who were placed in the prison were the commander of the Border Guard / Fifth District, the commander of the Border Guard Brigade / Fifth District, and the commander of the third regiment in the Border Guard Brigade / Fifth District, indicating that these measures came against the background of the attack by ISIS elements. At a border post with Saudi Arabia, yesterday, Tuesday, weapons and equipment were stolen after the security forces left the station.
The Anbar desert regions, in the west of the country, are witnessing security breaches from time to time, despite the intense security deployment.
Last year, an Iraqi officer was killed and five security personnel were wounded when a car bomb exploded on the side of a public road in the town of Nukhayb, on the border with Saudi Arabia.
In November 2020, the Iraqi Border Ports Authority announced the opening of the Arar border crossing with Saudi Arabia, after nearly 30 years of its closure, during a ceremony in the presence of two official delegations from the Iraqi and Saudi sides.

Earlier, the commander of the Iraqi joint operations, Abdul Amir al-Shammari, said that the leadership had completed all procedures for securing the road towards the border crossing with Saudi Arabia, explaining that the road from Arar to the al-Nukhayb region, and then to the Anbar and Karbala governorates, is 100 percent fully secured.
Hassan Al-Qaisi, a retired Iraqi officer, confirmed that the road to the Iraqi-Saudi border is long and surrounded by vast desert areas, explaining to Al-Arabi Al-Jadeed that this requires the presence of large Iraqi forces to control it. He continued, "The quality of armament and monitoring devices in the Iraqi border outposts must be sophisticated and commensurate with the size of terrorist threats posed by ISIS," noting that the security services have not yet been able to control the borders and prevent infiltration through them.
The security breaches are not limited to the borders with Saudi Arabia only, as [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] has also witnessed repeated attempts to infiltrate, prompting the Iraqi authorities to intensify their efforts to control it.
Yesterday, Tuesday, the spokesperson for the Joint Iraqi Operations Command, Major General Tahseen Al-Khafaji, expressed his hope that the issue of the Iraqi-Syrian borders would end and all loopholes would be closed, pointing out that ISIS began to move in recent months near the border with Syria.
He pointed out that the International Coalition had recently provided Iraq, in stages, with barbed wire, towers and surveillance cameras to control the borders, adding, "However, the Iraqi forces exceeded this by constructing a tunnel 3 meters deep and 3 meters wide and a dirt dam."
