Saleh stressed in a tweet on Twitter that: "The use of bullets in demonstrations should not pass without investigation and accountability."
He added, "Also, protecting security and public property is a national duty."
Saleh pointed out, "Peaceful demonstrations are a constitutional right and an embodiment of the insistence of the Iraqis on a capable and sovereign state."
He pointed out that "achieving the aspirations of our youth requires ensuring fair elections."
A protester was killed by security forces' bullets and at least 13 others were wounded this afternoon, Tuesday, as a result of tear gas, as security and medical sources reported, following clashes that interrupted a demonstration in Tahrir Square in Baghdad demanding accountability for those responsible for the killers of activists.
Following the events, the United Nations Mission in Iraq declared that "accountability is the key to the stability of Iraq."
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi announced that an investigation had been opened into the events of the Tahrir Square demonstrations, and he said in a tweet on Twitter: "We supported the freedom of peaceful protest in Iraq, and we issued strict orders to protect demonstrations, restraint and prevent the use of live bullets for any reason."
He added, "Today we will open a transparent investigation about what happened in the last moments of the Tahrir Square demonstration to uncover the circumstances. Security is everyone's responsibility, and we must all share in preserving it."
Thousands participated in the demonstration, which included people from southern cities such as Nasiriyah and Karbala, who raised pictures of activists who were assassinated, including Ihab Al-Wazni, who was assassinated in Karbala earlier this month, accompanied by the phrase "Who killed me?"
The demonstrators gathered in Al-Firdous Square, while others gathered in Al-Nisour Square before setting off for Tahrir Square, the protest center in Baghdad, which witnessed tight security measures and the spread of hundreds of anti-people’s elements and maintaining order.
Security forces took control of Tahrir Square after dispersing the demonstrators by force.
