{Local: Al Furat News} The spokesman for the Ministry of Electricity, Ahmed Al-Abadi, stated that Iraq has completed the electrical connection with the linkage of the Gulf countries, with 87% of its obligations towards this link.
Al-Abadi said in a press statement that "this line is about 300 kilometers long, 220 kilometers inside Kuwaiti territory and 80 kilometers inside Iraqi territory. The project will be completed in its first phase in June of next year, which will provide for the transfer of 500 megawatts to Basra."
With regard to the connection with Jordan, he stressed, "There is an agreement signed by the Iraqi Ministry of Electricity with the Jordanian Ministry of Energy stipulating that there will be an electrical connection, starting with 150 megawatts in its first phase, and among the obligations of this connection is that Iraq establish the Risha-Qaim line, and that it also establish a station Converting 400 megawatts.
Al-Abadi pointed out that "the work was referred to General Electric Company for a period of 26 months to implement this project in its first phase," adding that "the Jordanian Ministry of Energy met with the Iraqi Ministry of Electricity about two weeks ago, and the two ministries reached a new protocol agreement by which the time limit from 26 months to a year was overcome. One, to transfer 150 megawatts of power to the western provinces.
On April 27, the Council of Ministers announced raising the country's import of electric power by 300 megawatts, following a decrease in the hours of energy processing in the country.
In September 2019, Iraq signed an agreement with the Gulf Cooperation Council to establish a 300-kilometre electric power transmission line; 80 km of it inside Iraq, and 220 km inside Kuwait.
According to Iraqi officials, the line will provide the country with 500 megawatts of electric power upon completion of the first phase of it next summer.
As for the electrical connection with Turkey, a spokesman for the Ministry of Electricity clarified that "it was supposed to establish a Salaba-Fayda 132 line, and to establish a carrot-conductor line, which is the ultra-high pressure 400, and these two lines have been fully completed," adding that "some of these lines partially pass through." Through the territory of the Kurdistan Region, where we found great cooperation from the regional government to complete this project, and it will begin within days with the transfer of 500 megawatts of power.
He pointed out that "today the Ministry of Electricity has great understandings with the Saudi side to link the Iraqi lines with the Saudi lines through a memorandum of understanding and electrical connection, and now defining outlets and setting prices are being discussed," noting that "two places have been proposed to connect the Saudi lines with it, either at Al-Yousifiya station or at Samawa station road, and therefore we have also reached advanced stages to complete this connection.”
