    Information / Diyala
A former government official said, on Tuesday, that road royalties pushed up the prices of vegetables and fruits to rise in Diyala.
The former head of the Muqdadiya District Council (40 km northeast of Baquba), Adnan al-Tamimi, told the “Information” agency, that “the imposition of royalties on trucks carrying local or imported vegetables and fruits coming from Kurdistan towards Diyala, the citizens of Muqdadiya and the rest of the governorate pay for it.”
He added, "The phenomenon of royalties is adopted by corrupt and influential parties in a manner that takes place according to multiple frameworks," stressing "the need for the regulatory authorities in Baghdad to take a step to end the file of road royalties and conduct a surprise detection process in order to infer the identity of those responsible for it, who earn millions of dinars per month from illegal methods.
Diyala is linked to the Kurdistan region through multiple roads and is a commercial artery for transporting goods, vegetables and fruits throughout the year.
