Alwa Hamdan Central Center for Fruits and Vegetables in Basra witnessed, on Monday morning, an increase in the prices of goods coming from Iran, with a delay in the entry of trucks through the Shalamcheh border crossing, due to the recent rain wave, in addition to the requirements of the month of Ramadan, and the rate of increase ranged between (100 - 250). One dinar per kilo.
Ali Al-Daraji - Director of a vegetable sales office:
Prices rise repeatedly in Ramadan with increased demand, in addition to the low supply due to rain and the unavailability of crops coming from the border crossings with Iran.
Tomatoes coming from Al-Zubair farms are the most abundant in the markets, and when the production of those farms stops, we resort to importing from Iran, which leads to higher prices.
