Iraqi forces dismantle a network of blackmail targeting public figures, employees and government officials
Shafaq News/ An official security source said on Wednesday that the National Security Agency in Diwaniyah governorate in southern Iraq was able to dismantle a blackmail network targeting public figures, state employees and officials through fake pages with the aim of obtaining funds.
The source, an officer in the National Security Apparatus, told Shafaq News Agency, that the network led by (an affiliate in the Diwaniyah Police Command) was arrested in flagrante delicto during a tight ambush set up for him while he was receiving a sum of $1,000 from one of the victims, referring to his referral. The judiciary to receive his just punishment.
The source, who preferred to remain anonymous, confirmed the seizure of all the fake pages run by this group, and work is underway to prosecute the rest of those involved in these crimes.
And he indicated that many public figures and state employees were subjected to blackmail and defamation through these pages, which are run in fictitious names, calling on those affected to file an official complaint against these groups to serve as an example to others.
