Iraq gets 120-day US exemption for Iranian energy imports

The United States granted Iraq another exemption from sanctions for 120 days to continue importing fuels from Iran.
An Iraqi Foreign Ministry official said in a written statement to the Iraq Oil Report: "The United States granted a 120-day waiver to allow Iraq to pay for electricity imports from Iran."
The US administration renewed the exemption from sanctions on Iraq for participating in financial transactions related to importing electricity from Iran.
And the US administration granted the first exemption under the Biden administration on March 31, 2021.
Under the new exemption granted by the Joe Biden administration, Iraq will be able to continue importing electricity and gas from its eastern neighbor for four months, that is, from the beginning of April until the beginning of next August.
It is worth noting that this exemption is the longest-term among previous exemptions, and it is the maximum allowed by US law.
