International Monitoring: Most of the Iraqi workers are unskilled and at the bottom of the productive countries
Shafaq News/ The Middle East Institute (MEI), in the American capital, - a think tank that provides specialized policy analysis and educational and professional development services - reported that most Iraqi workers are unskilled, in addition to that university graduates do not find suitable jobs.
The institute said in a June report, seen by Shafak News Agency, that Iraqis between the ages of 15 and 24 make up 70% of the country's workforce, according to 2020 figures issued by the Iraqi Central Bureau of Statistics. However, most of them were not provided with an opportunity to join the public sector or work in the private sector.
"The youth unemployment rate increased by a staggering 27.2% in 2020, according to the International Labor Organization," he added.
The report also pointed out that "most of the Iraqi workers are unskilled and have been placed in the lower half of the ILO's productivity rankings. There are also problems in managing and motivating workers, such as the failure to develop vocational training, which prevents the market from expanding to accommodate young people."
He pointed out that "another concern is that most university graduates do not find suitable jobs, which has led to high unemployment rates among this group," noting that "improving opportunities for their employment requires urgent financial measures, such as increasing access to finance and wage subsidies, skills and development in Business administration with support in productivity and innovation, investment in education, improved financing for small and medium-sized businesses, agriculture, and development of public works strategies.
He continued that in terms of the "financial sector, spending strategies need to be re-examined and the implementation of structural measures, the current way of managing the public financial sector imposes a burden on the Iraqi financial situation as inclusion must be imposed to deal with the social and economic situation of grievances and demands, address broader economic challenges, and move the state towards Long-term innovation and sustainable solutions This can be achieved by imposing focused quotas on age groups or measures that increase the number of MSMEs, and the lending system should be increased from 7% to 30% in the next five years, and priority should be given for the agricultural sector.
