Iraqi Foreign Minister: We are not going to escalate with Turkey, and we will resort to negotiations
Shafaq News/ On Saturday, Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein stressed the need to solve the problem of the presence of Turkish forces and elements of the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) on Iraqi soil.
Hussein added during his speech to members of the Iraqi parliament in its special session; "We are not in the process of a political, security or military escalation with the Turkish side, and the door to negotiations with the Turks must be opened."
Today, Saturday, Parliament Speaker Muhammad al-Halbousi opened the parliament’s session in the presence of 242 deputies to discuss the Turkish bombing of the Barkh resort, in the independent administration of Zakho in the Kurdistan Region, in the presence of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Defense and army commanders.
The meeting was attended by Foreign Minister Fouad Hussein since its inception, while Defense Minister Jumaa Inad, Chief of Staff of the Army and Deputy Commander of Joint Operations arrived.
Last Wednesday, Turkish army artillery bombed the Barkh resort in Zakho district, killing nine Iraqi tourists and wounding several others, including women and children.
As a result, on Thursday, the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs handed the Turkish ambassador in Baghdad, Ali Reza Günay, a protest note, against the backdrop of the Turkish bombing.
An official ceremony took place earlier this morning, in the presence of the President of the Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani, to receive and bid farewell to the bodies of the victims of the bombing that targeted a tourist resort in the administration of the independent Zakho region.
