Shafaq News/ The International Energy Agency (IEA) predicted, on Tuesday, that renewable energy will overtake coal and become the largest source of electricity generation worldwide by the middle of this decade.
According to the report issued by the agency today, a major shift is expected in the electricity mix in the world at a time of great fluctuations and geopolitical tensions.

He added: The first real global energy crisis caused by the Russian-Ukrainian war showed an unprecedented momentum for renewable energy.
He continued: Renewable energy will become the largest source of electricity generation in the world by the beginning of 2025.
The International Energy Agency expects renewable energy to account for about 40% of global electricity production by 2025, overtaking coal.
These estimates coincide with major disturbances in global energy markets due to the Russian-Ukrainian war.
According to Eurostat data, Russia was the largest supplier of natural gas and oil to the European Union in 2021, yet gas exports from Moscow to the European Union declined this year.
The International Energy Agency indicated that the global energy crisis is causing an acceleration of installations related to renewable energy, as the growth of total production capacity worldwide is set to double in the next five years.
