Hayan Abdul-Ghani, the Iraqi Oil Minister, said that Baghdad is seeking to reach an agreement with Kuwait regarding a mechanism for exploiting the joint oil fields between the two countries.
This came in a statement to the Kuwaiti newspaper "Al-Qabas", on the sidelines of the meeting of the Organization of Arab Petroleum Exporting Countries "OAPEC", which was hosted by Kuwait.
Abdul Ghani said that there are joint committees between the two countries to study the mechanism of exploiting the oil fields located in the border areas.
He continued, "We hope to reach an agreement on the exploitation of joint oil fields."
The oil ministers of OAPEC countries discussed the status of energy markets, including Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Libya, Iraq, Qatar, Egypt and Syria, in addition to the assistant oil ministers in Bahrain, the Emirates and Algeria. The Iraqi oil minister was also elected to assume the presidency of the organization's cabinet in 2023.
