The Ministry of Transport is working to activate transit agreements with more than 70 countries, including neighboring countries, while addressing the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers for the purpose of reducing fuel prices for its trucks.
The director of the Ministry's General Land Transport Company, Mortada Karim Al-Shahmani, told Al-Sabah that the ministry is seeking to activate all international agreements that would expand the land transport movement, in a way that facilitates the passage of trucks at the border crossings according to the international transit mechanism for more than 70 countries. Including neighboring countries.
He pointed out the importance of these agreements in increasing the movement of trucks and the volume of trade exchange, especially after the entry into force of the electronic system and tracking systems for trucks, and the adoption of modern methods to largely eliminate fraud and smuggling operations.
Al-Shahmani added that the company is considered the local guarantor in the event of the implementation of these agreements by issuing operating orders that grant licenses to companies in the private sector in accordance with the required conditions, noting that the company's fleet continues its activities in various fields as a commitment to the implementation of transport contracts concluded with various ministries and government sectors.
He stated that the company had addressed the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers of the need to reduce the prices of fuel supplied to its trucks and to address this file due to the negative consequences of its increase in the increase in transportation costs that the citizen will eventually bear, pointing to continuous coordination and joint work with state institutions for the purpose of producing results that serve the process.
