After the announcement by Prime Minister Muhammad Shia’a al-Sudani, followed by the Ministry of Oil, in a detailed statement, the recovery of equipment, materials and devices stolen from the Baiji refinery during the occupation of the terrorist “ISIS” gangs, the hopes of experts and followers revived that Iraq would achieve a leap towards self-sufficiency in oil derivatives. And they considered it an important step towards stopping the import of these derivatives, which annually cost the state billions of dollars. Oil expert Ali Nehme told Al-Sabah that "all tools and materials stolen from the refinery, which were in the Kurdistan region, were recovered," noting that "the recovered materials Although they are important parts of the refinery, they represent about 60% of the materials needed for the refinery, and there are missing parts and others that need to be provided for a period of time, but they will certainly be slightly less than if the stolen materials were not recovered.
He explained that "the maximum capacity of the refinery is to filter 310,000 barrels of crude oil per day," noting that "the Ministry of Oil, as it had previously relied on national personnel to rehabilitate the Salah al-Din 1 and Salah al-Din 2 refineries, which were subjected to sabotage during the entry of (ISIS) gangs into Salah al-Din Governorate; It will also rely on national personnel to rehabilitate the Baiji refinery, with the possibility of contracting with support companies if there is a need for that.
Nehme pointed out that "the refinery will contribute to the provision of oil products, of which large quantities are imported, especially gasoline, as it is expected to provide more than 4.5 million liters per day, which will greatly reduce imports, and thus save large sums allocated for importing products."
Concerning the details of restoring the equipment and materials of the refinery, a statement by the Ministry of Oil stated, "In confirmation of the importance of upgrading services provided to citizens, preserving and developing oil wealth, and preserving the national economy, very important, governing, and specially manufactured equipment for the North refinery in Baiji was recovered after it was lost during the control of ISIS gangs." terrorist.”
He added, "This recovery came based on the cooperation of a jealous Iraqi citizen, legal and unofficial bodies and personalities, as well as the efforts of the official authorities, and it was returned to the refinery, after the materials were distributed among the yards of old equipment and industrial materials in the Kurdistan region of Iraq, and other places, and some of these The equipment is difficult to diagnose except by specialists,” pointing out that “this step was achieved after communication by the citizen, with the Oil and Energy Committee in the House of Representatives and the head of the committee, and his expression of his desire to help recover this equipment, and some of it is unused equipment that was manufactured specifically for the refinery company.” North, some of which have been identified through serial numbers.
The statement indicated that "the equipment was transferred and delivered through the cooperation and diligence of all parties, and without paying any sums to any party, as well as through close cooperation from the official authorities in the region, in addition to initiatives from popular parties that contributed to this recovery, in support of the government's path and presenting the importance of Al-Islah”, indicating that “the recovered materials are diverse and many, and they can be traded in the local markets, and the most prominent recovered parts included (German-made compressors for the gasoline improvement unit, hydrogen and hydraulic compressors, pumps for refining units, high-voltage electric motors, lubrication systems, and valves.” And breakers that connect with tanks, and a large number of control equipment, systems and precision machines).
He continued, "The recovery of this equipment, with this quantity, comes to speed up the process of operating the North Refinery, as the delay in this operation incurs great losses for Iraq on a daily basis."
