Security experts and members of the Parliamentary Security Committee considered that the reports received from the United Nations regarding possible risks of the return of "ISIS" to its criminal activities are inaccurate.
A member of the Parliamentary Security and Defense Committee, Yasser Watut, said in an interview with "Al-Sabah" that "the exact number of the presence of (ISIS) throughout Iraq ranges between 800 to 1,000 terrorists," and indicated that "this issue is related to the executive authority, and we as a supervisory authority We diagnose any defect, whether it is a failure on the part of a security commander or a security apparatus, and inform the Prime Minister that there is a weakness or defect in one of the executive bodies.” And there is a future plan that needs vigorous follow-up by the security, national security, intelligence, interior, and defense agencies,” noting, “as a legislative oversight body, the head of the Parliamentary Security and Defense Committee is working to form committees that begin their work in any ministry to follow up the procedures.”In turn, the expert on security affairs, Dr. Ahmed Al-Sharifi, said in an interview with "Al-Sabah": "The report issued by the United Nations is a scientific and objective report and reads the data accurately," and explained that "the United Nations has determined the number of ISIS at 7 thousand terrorists or a little more, However, we believe that the number is not less than 10,000 ISIS, and every gathering if it exceeds this number is considered an army, so ISIS still has an army in terms of human resources, in addition to owning a few billion dollars, and this can generate financial resources for it to manage combat operations and their use to obtain weapons.” He pointed out, “Al-Hol camp is still a tributary of the organization - even if it is under the control of (Qasd) forces, as they are soft and irregular forces and their number does not exceed 400 people - while the numbers of those in the camp are around 57 Alpha.” He added:"It is true that there are women, men, and children among them, but these children have begun to grow up within a social and intellectual structure that prepares them to be a future army for the terrorist organization." Al-Sharifi noted, "The caveats referred to by the United Nations are many, and warned Iraq that it has border contact with Syria, and therefore The possibility of the organization’s penetration through infiltration operations is available, and the danger still exists, and this requires that the political decision in Iraq be wise, and that it does not currently demand the withdrawal of the international coalition, because at the level of logistical support we still need the electronic technical effort, reconnaissance and monitoring, and we do not have all These resources are at the level of national capabilities, and therefore the International Coalition is ready to secure these requirements.” He said: “The UN report is accurate, as ISIS still poses a threat to the region in general and is concentrated in Iraq and Syria.”And experts at the United Nations indicated last week that the terrorist organization “ISIS” still has an effective fighting force, and the experts stated in a report submitted to the UN Security Council that “ISIS” still commands between 5-7 thousand members in its former stronghold in Syria.
