Today, Wednesday (September 6, 2023), an economist suggested that the exchange rate of the dollar would rise to 300,000 dinars, after the Federal Court’s decision on the unconstitutionality of the Khor Abdullah agreement with Kuwait.
Nabil Al-Marsoumi said in a statement received by "Baghdad Today", that "the Federal Court's decision on the unconstitutionality of the ratification law of the Khor Abdullah agreement will open the door to appeal a number of agreements signed by Iraq before 2015."
He added, "At the forefront of these agreements is the strategic framework agreement with the United States of America, which the House of Representatives voted on in 2008 and did not obtain the vote of a majority of two-thirds of the members of the House of Representatives."
Al-Marsoumi indicated that "if this happens and the strategic framework agreement is challenged, it is expected that the dollar will rise to 3,000 dinars, and one hundred dollars will be equivalent to 300,000 dinars or more," he said.
The Federal Supreme Court decided the day before yesterday, Monday, that the law ratifying the maritime navigation agreement in Khor Abdullah concluded with Kuwait was unconstitutional.
The court justified its decision "for violating the provisions of Article (61 / Fourth) of the Constitution of the Republic of Iraq, which stipulates that the process of ratifying international treaties and agreements is regulated by a law enacted by a two-thirds majority of the members of the House of Representatives."
The decision of the Federal Court brings to the fore the border problems between Iraq and Kuwait, which the two countries pledged to overcome recently, after the gradual improvement in relations over the past years.
The judicial decision also aroused anger among the Kuwaiti parliamentarians, who threatened to open the compensation file for Iraq.
