Member of the Parliamentary Security Committee, Representative Yasser Iskandar Watut, confirmed on Wednesday that the government has initiated an age balance strategy in Iraq’s security institutions.

Watout said in an interview with Al-Maalouma, “The nature of the formation of the various types of Iraqi security institutions after 2003 relied on the principle of volunteerism under the exceptional circumstances that he experienced with the emergence of terrorist organizations and the unrest that required the adoption of multiple options in order to increase human capabilities to confront security challenges directly.” .
He added, "With time, the age factor has emerged, especially with the average age of members of the security forces reaching stages that require reconsideration in order to avoid the stage of old age." He pointed out that "postponing the decision on the conscription law required adopting the option of contracts with thousands of young people."
He pointed out that "the recent decades in the Ministries of Interior and Defense are an actual implementation of the age-balance strategy in Iraq's security institutions and new blood that contributes to creating greater flexibility in law enforcement," pointing out that "young ages are important in security contexts, especially for effective combat units."
The Ministries of Interior and Defense organized contracts with thousands of young people in various governorates according to specific contexts and for a specific period of time.
