Industrial cities are the key to economic development and eliminating unemployment

Al-Muthanna - Ahmed Nasser
Industrial cities are considered one of the basic pillars in building and developing the economy of any country, because their organized work creates a special economic identity through the optimal exploitation of natural resources to produce all the different commodities and merchandise that society needs, saving millions of dinars if the country imports them from abroad, in addition to manual labor. The local workforce, which helps achieve development by reducing poverty, creating social development for the local community, improving income and achieving well-being for it, and to shed light on the issue of establishing industrial cities, Al Mada had this tour.
Three cities
The head of the Federation of Iraqi Industries, Muthanna Branch, Faleh Al-Hatimi, said during an interview with (Al-Mada), “The development plan in Muthanna Governorate includes the establishment of three giant industrial cities distributed over different geographical areas in the governorate, and the first of these cities was established and has reached advanced stages of completion.” It is the industrial city located near Lake Sawa. It is a city built on an area of 4,000 dunams, ready for investment. This city specializes in all construction industries and the iron and steel industry.”
He added, “The second industrial city is located at the northern entrance to the governorate and its area is estimated at 200 dunums, and it includes various industries that the governorate and neighboring governorates need. As for the third city, it is located in the Al-Zarijieh area and will be an alternative to the old brick factory. Its area is estimated at 500 dunums, and this city will be Especially for entrepreneurship projects for young graduates who have a vision to create a specific project.”
Al-Hatimi calls on “the heavenly youth, especially the graduates among them, to read Law No. 37 of 2017, which guarantees the right of the young man, if he works in the private industrial sector, to obtain an amount of 50 million without interest for his project, and if he enters the legal retirement age, he will have a retirement salary, as is the case for an employee in the government sector, provided that His project must be registered in official departments. These privileges are sufficient to create job opportunities that help absorb the unemployment numbers for graduates in all specializations.” He explains, “The experiences of some neighboring countries were used when establishing these cities. For example, we looked at important experiences of industrial cities in the United Arab Emirates, the Republic of Turkey, and Iran, and the experiences were successful. We transferred these experiences to Al-Muthanna Governorate, and these industrial cities will be the economic identity of the governorate.”
Providing job opportunities
For his part, industrial development specialist Saad Muhammad, speaking to (Al Mada), says, “The Iraqi government must pay great attention to the idea of industrial cities because it is one of the projects that, if completed, will achieve development in all fields, including the economic field, because Iraq is one of the countries that It imports everything from foodstuffs to industrial materials to construction materials, and the country at the same time includes all the raw materials that produce these industries. It is unreasonable for building materials to be imported from neighboring countries, and the deserts of Iraq are full of types of metals that constitute the raw materials in the construction industries.” . He continues, “Iraqi universities annually graduate more than half a million young men and women in various specializations, and most of them are unemployed. If industrial cities were established with different industries, such as the textile industry, the dairy industry, foodstuffs, the date or sweets industry, the wood industry, or furniture, this would help the state.” To save millions of dinars because it will stop imports from these countries, and whoever wanders around the markets will find that everything in them is imported.”
Muhammad explains, “Industrial cities are sufficient to provide job opportunities for all male and female graduates and provide all of these products, thus achieving the process of industrial and social development. The result is that the state gets rid of the rentier economy, and also addresses the issue of government employment, which burdens the state by spending millions of dinars per month on salaries until some State departments include armies of employees and they achieve the principle of disguised unemployment.”
Supreme Council for Development
In addition, economics teacher Ammar Al-Yasiri said, in an interview with (Al-Mada), that “the Iraqi government must choose a group of economics professors in Iraqi universities and form a higher council for economic development that will be far from political conflicts. This council studies the environment of each Iraqi governorate and what the materials are.” And the natural and human potential of each governorate and the role of this potential in establishing industrial cities.”
He adds, “On this basis, an economic identity is formed for each governorate. Iraq has many minerals, natural materials, and minerals that, if exploited, will achieve self-sufficiency in all fields, and this comes from the establishment of industrial cities with a special identity in each governorate. Is it possible that Iraq It has the world's largest fields of reeds and papyrus, and it imports school notebooks from neighboring countries. If industrial cities had been established in southern Iraq specializing in the manufacture of paper supplies through internal or external investment, Iraq would not have imported school notebooks from abroad, and this is the simplest example.
