The Iraqi Prime Minister, Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani, confirmed to British Foreign Minister David Cameron, Baghdad’s commitment to providing protection for diplomatic missions and following up on the perpetrators of the attacks.
This came during a phone call that Al-Sudani received from Cameron, which witnessed discussion of relations between Baghdad and London and ways to strengthen them, in addition to a review of the security and political conditions in the region, and the latest developments in the Palestinian issue, according to a statement.
During the call, the Iraqi Prime Minister affirmed Iraq's commitment to providing protection for advisors and diplomatic missions operating in Iraq, as required by international norms, laws and agreements, reiterating his rejection of any violation of sovereignty and any harm or insult to the country's reputation.
Al-Sudani pointed out that the Iraqi government and security forces are serious about pursuing the perpetrators of any attack on missions and advisors’ workplaces, and that they will deal with them in accordance with the laws and what is required by the interest and security of Iraq.
He pointed out that the continuation of the aggression in Gaza will have repercussions on the entire world order and security in the region, especially with the targeting of unarmed civilians, which constitutes a flagrant violation of all international and humanitarian laws, and that the great powers now face a moral and legal responsibility to prevent the continuation of systematic killing.
The Iraqi Prime Minister continued: “The permanent members of the Security Council should have supported what the Secretary-General of the United Nations presented to the Council, regarding the call for a ceasefire.”
For his part, Cameron expressed his appreciation for the Iraqi government's positions in protecting diplomatic missions, stressing his government's ambition to develop relations with Iraq and expand the horizons of partnership between the two countries, for the mutual benefit of the Iraqi and British peoples, and to support stability in the region.
