    The President of the Republic, Dr. Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid, received today, Monday, April 1, 2024, at the Peace Palace in Baghdad, the Head of the European Union Delegation to Iraq, Thomas Seiler.
    During the meeting, the President of the Republic affirmed Iraq's keenness to continue the path of reform, combating corruption, and consolidating the law, the foundations of justice, and respect for human rights, noting in this regard that the government has developed a program to curb corruption, stimulate the economy, and encourage investment opportunities.
     The President of the Republic pointed out the importance of the role of embassies and diplomatic missions in conveying the true picture of the positive developments in Iraq to their countries and people, especially in the field of security and stability witnessed by Iraqi cities, and the improvement of the living conditions of citizens, noting that Iraq includes many components and sects that are keen and working to strengthen Peaceful coexistence.
     The President of the Republic added that the Presidency of the Republic worked to release approximately (9) thousand detainees whose sentences had expired or who were detained without a judicial ruling by forming a committee that included the Presidency of the Republic, the Presidency of the Supreme Judicial Council, the Ministries of Justice and the Interior, in addition to the National Security Advisory.
    The President of the Republic affirmed Iraq's firm position on the Palestinian issue and the Palestinians' right to establish their independent state with Holy Jerusalem as its capital, stressing the need to stop the aggression against Gaza and civilians and allow medical and food aid to enter the Strip. 
    For his part, the head of the European Union delegation to Iraq expressed his happiness at meeting with the President of the Republic, stressing the importance of the European Union’s role in expanding the horizons of cooperation with Iraq in various political, economic and security fields, noting that Iraq is an important strategic partner for the European Union.
