Iraqi Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani confirmed that the contracts of American oil companies operating in the Kurdistan Region were invalidated by the Federal Court.
Al-Sudani said, in an interview with the Atlantic Council in America, followed by Al-Eqtisad News, that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will visit Iraq next Monday, and this visit is not fleeting, indicating that Iraq and Turkey have a real desire to solve the problems and not transfer the files.
He confirmed that he would discuss with the Turkish President the status of treatments for the water issue.
Al-Sudani revealed that he had begun reforming the tax and customs system, which led to an increase in non-oil revenues by 20% in the budget.
He stated that the Egyptian investor Naguib Sawiris will build a new city in Iraq with a capacity of 120,000 housing units, explaining that Qatari investment in Iraq amounted to more than 5 billion dollars within a year and a half.
Al-Sudani pointed out that the Economic Amendments Law will achieve a qualitative leap for the private sector, especially since the state will be regulated and monitored while the private sector is the one carrying the banner of reconstruction and production.
He pointed out that Iraq has achieved self-sufficiency in wheat crops.
On the other hand, Al-Sudani said that the contracts of American oil companies operating in Kurdistan will be dealt with judicially within Iraq, noting that the Federal Court invalidated the contracts of these companies.
He confirmed that the cost of producing a barrel of oil in southern Iraq is $8, while the cost of producing a barrel of oil in the Kurdistan Region is $26.
The first solution was to amend the contracts of oil companies in Kurdistan and shift the obligations to Baghdad, and the companies and the regional government rejected this proposal, while the second solution was to amend the budget law and Parliament rejected that by calculating the cost of the barrel.
