Iran, Luxemburg to broaden financial, economic cooperation

Tehran,  Visiting Luxembourg Economy Minister Etienne Schneider conferred on Monday with Minister of Finance and Economy Ali Tayebnia on ways to expand financial and economic cooperation.

The two ministers examined the grounds for expansion of financial cooperation and removal of the obstacles for banking ties.

The Islamic Republic of Iran is willing to broaden financial and economic cooperation with Luxemburg and grounds for expansion of such cooperation between the two sides are well-prepared, Tayebnia said.

The Benelux is an economic union in Western Europe. It includes three neighboring monarchies, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg enjoying a very good status to establish economic relations with Iran, he said.

Banking cooperation between Iran and Luxembourg would be very constructive and promising, he said.

After removal of banking sanctions, the US yet to re-assure the European banks that they will not be penalised for business with Iran.

In recent talks with the head of IMF and the World Bank and economy ministers of Germany, Italy and France, they said that they do their best to resolve the issue at the earliest in order to resume banking cooperation with Iran, said the Iranian minister.

Luxembourg Economy Minister Etienne Schneider for his part expressed hope to witness a very promising economic cooperation between the two countries in the future.

He said that Luxembourg government is keen on economic cooperation with the Islamic Republic of Iran and cooperation between universities and technology centers.
