    [ltr]The Catalan parliament announced on Friday the declaration of independence of the territory from Spain, news agencies reported.[/ltr]
    [ltr]Parliament adopted a resolution declaring the region an "independent state in the form of a republic" before performing the separatist anthem in the absence of opposition.[/ltr]
    [ltr]The deputies applauded after the decision was approved by 70 votes "yes" and 10 votes without and with two votes.[/ltr]
    [ltr]The Parliament's resolution calls for the beginning of the secession process, which includes the enactment of new Catalan laws and the opening of negotiations "on an equal footing" with the Spanish authorities to lay the foundations for cooperation.[/ltr]
