US Defense Department spokesman Eric Bakhon said the Pentagonhoped the Russian ships would act "safely and professionally" during their military exercises in the Mediterranean in the coming period.
"We are aware of media reports regarding the Russian maneuvers on average," Bakhon said in a press statement.
"The US Navy is traditionally located in the Mediterranean Sea and the maritime corridors of the world, and like any other country, operating freely in international waters, and therefore we hope that Russian ships in the Mediterranean will act safely for others and professionally in accordance with international standards and practices."
