The governor of Basra is giving up his parliamentary seat
Basra Governor Asaad al-Eidani said on Wednesday he would step down from his parliamentary seat to stay in his current post.
"I am staying governor of Basra," Eidani said in a press statement. "I will go to parliament to give up my seat there."
He pointed out that "Basra needs to coordinate efforts between the local government and the provincial council to improve the reality of service and living in them."
