A member of the Central Council of the Iraqi Platform Zia al-Mu'ini, on Friday, the decision to grant large areas of land surrounding the Baghdad airport for investment as a "dangerous precedent" that will contribute to the displacement of the people of the Baghdad belt.
"It was better for the Iraqi government to urge the National Investment Authority to establish irrigation projects to provide good water and reclamation of agricultural land and provide the necessary services to the people of these areas instead of this step, which would empty these areas of its people,"
Al-Mu'aini said in a statement. The Cabinet decided to suspend these procedures and to postpone the implementation of this resolution, also called on the House of Representatives to take its role in this sensitive file
The Cabinet approved at its 19th ordinary session, held on May 14 last, to grant land surrounding Baghdad Airport to Investment under its Resolution No. (175) of 2019.
The plan for the development and rehabilitation of the land surrounding the airport includes the establishment of commercial, economic, educational, medical research and services centers as well as recreational and sports centers, in accordance with international standards, and the establishment of 5,000 housing units owned by the Iraqi citizen, Economic growth to the country, through the increase in the value of land, and the return of facilities to the state after the end of the period of investment, providing opportunities to provide a variety of jobs for the population of these areas and surrounding ».
