    The Ministry of Planning announced, on Sunday, that there was a slight decrease in the prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages by 0.3% during the past month, while it indicated that the monthly inflation rate also recorded a slight increase in the month of last May, by 0.04%.

    The official spokesman for the Ministry of Planning, Abdul-Zahra Al-Hindawi, said in a statement that “people” received a copy of it, (20 June 2021), that “the drop in food prices came due to the decrease in the prices of milk, cheese and eggs by 1.9%, and vegetables by 1.8%.”  
    He added, "The Central Bureau of Statistics continued to monitor prices for various departments throughout Iraq, and that the agency issued its sixth qualitative report for the consumer price index for the month of May, after changing the exchange rate of the dinar in November of last year," noting that "the prices of The tobacco section recorded an increase during the mentioned month by 1.9%, compared to April, while the prices of clothes and shoes recorded a slight increase by (0.2%), and the housing section witnessed a decrease in its prices during the last month, which amounted to 0.2%, due to a decrease in rental prices by 0.6%. On the other hand, the prices of the home furnishings, equipment and maintenance department recorded an increase of 0.2%, and the prices of the health department also recorded an increase of 0.1%.  
    According to Al-Hindawi, "the prices of the education and transportation departments maintained the same levels recorded in last April, and the prices of the restaurants department recorded an increase of 0.1%, the prices of various goods and services increased by 1.5%, while the prices of the communication department increased by 0.3%, and the prices of the entertainment department witnessed an increase of 1.5%.  
    Al-Hindawi pointed out that "the inflation index recorded a cumulative rise since December of last year 2020, until May of this year, reaching 5.6%."  
    According to the ministry, the inflation index for the month of December, after changing the dollar exchange rate, recorded an increase by 3.3%, and in January of 2021 the inflation rate rose by 0.8, and it rose in February by 0.7%, and in the month of March the rate of increase in the inflation index was 0.6% In April, the index fell to 0.1%.
