Baghdad - Mawazine News
Today, Thursday, the Integrity Commission identified a mechanism for recovering the stolen funds, while revealing the size of the seized funds.
The Director General of the Recovery Department, Deputy Head of the Iraq Funds Recovery Fund in the Integrity Commission, Moataz Faisal Al-Abbasi, said, "There are many countries cooperating with Iraq on the issue of recovering looted funds," noting that "there are many files in other countries and contain fewer files, and we We continue to follow up on the files and demand them, each according to the country in which he is located."
He added that "the issue of recovery is not related to countries, but rather to individuals who acquire Iraqi funds, and what is required of the countries in which they are to cooperate."
Al-Abbasi added that "the money related to corruption is related to court rulings, as some of them have been recovered and others are in the process of being recovered," noting that "what was recovered amounted to more than 17 million dollars."
He stressed that "there are funds seized in those countries awaiting their recovery, amounting to more than four million and 250 thousand dollars, in addition to the issuance of Iraqi judicial rulings against people in amounts of more than two billion and 200 million dollars."
Earlier, the Ministry of Justice announced the imminent return of the looted funds from several countries, while revealing the formation of a common front with several countries that looted their money, to recover them from the countries that obstruct this file.
The Director-General of the Legal Department of the Ministry of Justice, Hanan Munther, said in a statement to the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "the conference to return the money that was held in Baghdad came out with important results and the development of mechanisms for cooperation and coordination between countries, as well as the formation of a front of countries that looted their money in order to recover it from Countries that put obstacles and complex legal procedures to prevent their return," noting that "this front will put great pressure on those countries to recover the money."
She added, "There are Arab countries cooperating with Iraq in this file, including Jordan and Lebanon, and the coming days will witness the return of funds for the benefit of Iraq."
On the fifteenth of September, Baghdad witnessed the establishment of an international conference to recover Iraq's looted funds.
In his speech during the conference, Minister of Justice Salar Abdul Muhammad stressed that it "aims to recover the looted funds in cooperation with countries and to confront the theft of public money," noting that "despite Iraq's accession to the agreement to recover looted funds, there is weakness in international efforts and the failure to take adequate measures." .
He added: "There are difficulties that prevent the implementation of the refund," stressing: "Just as we succeeded in eliminating terrorism, we must confront corruption, and the looted funds must be recovered through bilateral and international agreements."
He continued, "Iraq does not know most of the money looted prior to 2003," noting that "the role of the Ministry of Justice is to represent Iraq in international conferences and to file lawsuits and recover them to the state treasury."
And he stated, "The conference is an important message that recovering the looted funds is of interest to the state, and we refused not to recover them by states and to seize them," stressing that "Iraq is a country with a civilization that extends back 7,000 years and is capable of recovering its money and restoring things to their rightful place, and the government is determined to Recover all his money from abroad.” Ended 29/A87
