Al-Maliki, Iyad Allawi: Parliament's first session was marred by legal and constitutional violations
Shafaq News/ Head of the State of Law Coalition, Nuri al-Maliki, renewed on Wednesday the position of the Shiite coordination framework on the lack of "legal and constitutional" of the first session of the Iraqi Parliament in its new session, which witnessed the renewal of a new term for the former Speaker of the Council, Muhammad al-Halbousi, and the election of two deputies to him.
Al-Maliki is one of the most prominent leaders of the coordination framework that includes Shiite political forces opposed to the results of the Iraqi legislative elections that were held in October 2021.
A statement issued by Al-Maliki's media office stated that the latter received in his office today, the head of the National Coalition, Iyad Allawi, and his accompanying delegation.
The statement indicated that during the meeting, they discussed the latest developments in the current political situation, and the events that accompanied the convening of the first session of the new parliament.
The statement also indicated that al-Maliki "stressed the need to preserve the national interest and the continuity of dialogue between the Iraqi political parties away from differences and chaos in order to face the challenges that the country is going through."
Al-Maliki said, "The parliament session, which was held on Sunday, was marred by legal and constitutional violations, which called for an objection to the Federal Court to consider those violations and address the imbalance."
In turn, Allawi expressed his regret for what happened during the parliament session, calling on all parties to give priority to the interests of the Iraqi people and to enhance confidence among the political forces by forming joint committees to continue dialogues and to stay away from disputes and the charged and tense atmosphere in order to achieve security and stability in the country.
The coordinating framework had announced earlier this morning, submitting an objection to the Federal Court over the "violations" that accompanied the first session of the Iraqi parliament, in which a new presidency was elected.
On Tuesday evening, the leaders of the coordination framework held a special meeting to discuss the proceedings of the first parliament session, in the office of Hammam Hammoudi, President of the Supreme Council, and it continued for the early morning hours of today, Wednesday, according to an informed political source, told Shafaq News Agency.
