The deputy of the State of Law coalition, Durgham Al-Maliki, warned against entering Iraq into a constitutional vacuum if the country’s president was not elected, while he confirmed that intensive meetings would be held to reach an agreement on forming the government and choosing the president of the republic.
Al-Maliki said in a statement to "Al-Maalouma", "Iraq is going through a very dangerous juncture that is about to enter it into a constitutional vacuum if a president is not elected."
He added that "the political blocs will hold intensive meetings to reach an agreement on the formation of the government and the election of the President of the Republic," noting that "the constitutional texts allow the Speaker of Parliament to assume the position of the Presidency of the Republic until a new president is elected."
The Federal Supreme Court issued, on Sunday, a state order to stop the nomination of Hoshyar Zebari for the post of President of the Republic based on the lawsuits filed against him related to corruption cases. finished / 25 h
