The Ministry of Planning confirmed, on Saturday, that the gold found in the local markets is subject to quality control and control, and in accordance with regulations that also specify the conditions for practicing the goldsmithing profession.
The ministry's spokesman, Abdul-Zahra Al-Hindawi, said that "what is available in quantities and qualities of gold in the market is subject to and monitored by the Central Organization for Standardization and Quality Control of the ministry."
He added, "Field teams affiliated with the agency visit jewelry shops in all governorates and examine the jewelry inside the shops."
He explained, "No goldsmith or dealer can trade in gold unless he examines and "marks" it in the Central Organization for Standardization and Quality Control, and it is not possible to practice the profession of goldsmithing, except after obtaining a license to practice the profession from the agency."
