For the first time... Kurdistan produces electric power from "wasted gas" in its oil fields

Shafaq News / Today, Monday, the Kurdistan Regional Government announced the production of electricity from wasted gas from the oil fields for the first time in the region in the Karmian region, while pointing out its endeavor to increase this production.
The Media and Information Department of the Kurdistan Regional Government said in a statement received by Shafaq News Agency, "One of the important steps of the ninth ministerial formation of the Kurdistan Regional Government is to put a limit on toxic gas and produce electricity from wasted gas or exhaust from oil fields that pollute the environment, and for this purpose for the first time in Kurdistan Region Electricity is produced from gas wasted from oil fields.
The statement added, "The power plant in Garmian with a capacity of 165 megawatts, which generates electricity from exhaust or waste gas from Al-Hasira oil wells, was completed in 2021, as the project provides 118 local job opportunities for the residents of the region," noting that "the station's area is 35 dunums." It consists of 180 generators and 45 transformers, and the capacity of each generator is 0.9 megawatts, and its daily production is more than 100 megawatts, and efforts are continuing to increase this quantity.”
And the statement continued, "The ninth ministerial formation will work to reduce toxic gas and protect the environment from wasted gas in the oil fields. In addition to its economic benefits, this station will also have a great benefit to increase the hours of electricity supply in the Garmian administration."
