Coordination between Baghdad and Kurdistan to prevent the entry of foreign workers

The High Commissioner for Human Rights is coordinating with the Ministry of Interior and the Kurdistan Regional Government to strengthen measures to prevent the entry of foreign workers in order to avoid their exploitation by human trafficking gangs.
The director of the media center at the National Office of the Commission for Human Rights, Sarmad Al-Badri, told Al-Sabah: The Commission's office in Baghdad held a meeting with the Central Committee for Combating Human Trafficking in the Ministry of the Interior in order to discuss indicators of the spread of this phenomenon in the country and the presence of gangs specialized in practicing this.
He warned of the danger of human trafficking and the consequent spread of kidnappings and killings, which requires the cooperation of all relevant parties
.
Al-Badri indicated that the meeting resulted in the Ministry of Interior forming a specialized follow-up committee that includes all the competent authorities, in addition to coordination with the Kurdistan region and the cooperation of the UNHCR offices there in order to put in place mechanisms and special procedures to resolve the issue of violations related to the entry of foreign workers into the country through the border crossings in order to sell them in Baghdad. And the rest of the provinces and trading them through experienced gangs that have relations with specialized international mafias.
He explained that the meeting stressed the need for the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs to support the Home for Victims of Human Trafficking affiliated to it and provide it with a sufficient number of researchers, in addition to opening similar homes in Baghdad and the whole country and taking care of them according to the laws and instructions in force for inmates of state homes
