    Baghdad today - Sulaymaniyah
    Today, Sunday (October 8, 2023), the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan held a meeting in the party’s political office building in Sulaymaniyah. This is the first meeting after holding the party’s general conference and electing the president and leading members.
    According to Article 4, paragraph 12, of the bylaws, the elected president of the National Union invites the 60 members of the Leadership Council, in addition to the president, to hold the first meeting.
    According to one of the leading members who preferred to remain anonymous, “The agenda of the meeting was not announced, but what was decided was the election of the members of the party’s political bureau, whose number ranges between 12 to 14 members, and the odds indicate the election of the working body of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan.”
    According to information circulated by Kurdish media, "the meeting may discuss the issue of increasing the members of the party's leadership council, which is the authority granted by the bylaws voted on at the conference to the head of the National Union, Bafel Jalal Talabani."
    Yesterday, Saturday (October 8, 2023), an informed political source revealed the names of the members of the political bureau of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan after the fifth conference held recently by the party.
    The Leadership Council of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan is scheduled to hold its first meeting tomorrow, Sunday, to select members of the political bureau.
    According to what the political source told "Baghdad Today", the number of new members of the Political Bureau will be 14 members. 
    According to the source, the members will be: (Aso Mamand, Qubad Talabani, Shalaw Kosrat Rasoul, Darbaz Kosrat Rasoul, Rifaat Abdullah, Shanaz Ibrahim Ahmed, Hauri Sheikh Daro, Shalaw Ali Askari, Nizar Amidi, Javan Ehsan, Arez Abdullah, Rewaz Faiq, Yousef Goran, Sheikh Ahmed Nokan, Saadi Ahmed Berah).
    Last September, the fifth conference of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan Party was held, and Bafel Jalal Talabani was re-elected as “without partnership” president of the party.
    The position of president of the National Union was “joint,” as the joint president in the previous session of Lahore was held by Sheikh Jangi before he was removed from the presidency.
    In response to a question: Whether there was a disagreement at the fifth conference of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, conference member Rond Mulla Mahmoud said: “Of course there are disagreements and all those here are members of the party and have different opinions.”
    Mulla Mahmoud added, "So far, the conference has gone well, and we hope that all provisions of the bylaws will be completed today."
    Rond Mulla Mahmoud, who was elected a member of the party’s leadership at the fourth conference, noted, “There was consensus within the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan for a long time in making decisions, and now that we are in the conference, our slogan is consensus on decisions.”
    Regarding the election of the party’s leadership members, the conference member said, “After approving the party’s bylaws, the mechanism for electing the party’s leadership members will be discussed.”
    A member of the leadership of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, Sardar Harki, considered that the fifth conference, in the manner in which it was held, would deepen the current differences within the party even more.
    Harki said in a press statement: “At the present time, there are problems and disagreements within the party, in addition to the abstention of a number of party leaders from participating in the conference,” noting that “the number of leaders abstaining from participating in the conference is unprecedented.”
    He continued: "It was necessary for there to be reconciliation within the party before holding the conference," stressing that "the issue of time is very important for holding the conference, so as not to harm the name and status of the party."
