[size=45]On Friday (October 13, 2023), the Ministry of Planning confirmed “high-level” coordination with the Kurdistan Region to implement the population census in Iraq scheduled for the end of next year.[/size]
[size=45]Ministry spokesman Abdul Zahra Al-Hindawi said, “There is high-level coordination with the Statistics Authority in the region, and they are partners in the Supreme Census Authority, and partners in all the committees that we form, and there is cooperation and joint meetings.”[/size]
[size=45]He added, “The plan that was drawn up to implement the census includes all governorates of Iraq and does not exclude any of them, including the governorates of Kurdistan and Kirkuk.”[/size]
[size=45]The Ministry of Planning postponed the country’s population census, which was scheduled for the end of this year, until October of next year, 2024, due to the delay in approving the general budget and its conjunction with the provincial council elections scheduled to be held on December 18, suggesting that “the population of Iraq will reach 43 million people by End of the current year.[/size]
[size=45]The 1997 census was the last population census conducted in Iraq, with the exception of the Kurdistan Region.[/size]
[size=45]Iraq had previously conducted a general population census every ten years, as the census operations took place in the years (1927, 1934, 1947, 1957, 1965, 1977, 1987, 1997).[/size]
