    On Wednesday, the Ministry of Planning announced strict measures to completely control the borders and prevent the entry of smuggled goods, while indicating that there is high coordination with the region to unify procedures for all ports.
    Ministry spokesman Abdul Zahra Al-Hindawi said, in a statement reported by the official news agency, and seen by Al-Iqtisad News, that “the Central Organization for Standardization and Quality Control, through its contracts with a number of international companies, continues to inspect imported goods in the country of origin,” indicating that "These companies provide inspection certificates for imported goods, provided by the Iraqi private sector."
    Al-Hindawi pointed out that “there are problems at some unofficial border crossings, in addition to smuggling and diversion operations through unofficial crossings,” stressing that “the Ministry of the Interior is constantly taking all measures to completely control the borders and not allow the entry of any smuggled or illegal goods.” Conforming to the specifications, except by examining and conforming to the Iraqi specifications.”
    He stressed, "There is high-level coordination between Baghdad and Erbil, to unify procedures for border crossings, in addition to unifying customs policies."
    Al-Hindawi revealed that “a high-level meeting was held, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Planning Muhammad Tamim, and attended by a number of ministers from the federal government, which included the Minister of Interior, the Minister of Housing, Construction and Municipalities, the Minister of Justice, the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, in addition to the Secretary-General of the Council.” The ministers, the head of the General Authority for Taxes, the head of the Customs Authority, and the Director General of the Legal Department in the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers, and from the region’s side, it was attended by the Ministers of Interior and Finance, and a number of general directors and advisors in the Kurdistan Regional Government.”
    He added, "During the meeting, the possibility of developing unified mechanisms and policies was discussed, in addition to unifying procedures for border crossings, as well as the process of examining imported goods entering through the Kurdistan region."
