    The Bayraq Al-Khair Movement confirmed today, Monday (October 23, 2023), that the possibility of postponing the governorate council elections scheduled for next December 18 has increased and reached 60%.
    The Secretary-General of the Bayraq Al-Khair Movement, Muhammad Al-Khalidi, said in an interview with “Baghdad Today” that “talk about postponing the elections in the corridors of political forces has begun to increase in frequency in the past weeks, especially with confirmations that the abstention rates have reached 70% and perhaps more.”
    He added, "Many forces support the option of postponing the elections because they are not prepared enough to guarantee gains in the provincial council elections, in addition to the emergence of the Gaza issue and its dangerous repercussions on the Iraqi scene amid a state of tension following the bombing of American bases in the west and north of the country."
    He pointed out that "the events in Gaza have an impact on the Iraqi scene, and any tensions that get out of control may reach the country directly, which means the impossibility of holding elections in a tense and unstable atmosphere."
    The targeting of US forces’ bases in Iraq began to increase steadily and on a daily basis, while the Iraqi government issued a position rejecting the targeting and arresting the perpetrators, after a silence that lasted more than 5 days.
    The military operations against the American bases, which include the Al-Harir bases in Erbil, Ain Al-Assad in Anbar, and the Victoria base at Baghdad airport, raised concern about the possibility of expanding military operations in Iraq coinciding with the Al-Aqsa Flood operation in Palestine.
