A parliamentary memorandum by Representative Farouk Hanna Atto revealed two solutions that were before the Federal Supreme Court instead of excluding the components from the Kurdistan Regional Parliament elections scheduled for next June.
According to the memorandum, “Baghdad Today” received a copy of it, stating that “the Federal Court, with the experience and wisdom of its judiciary, could have diagnosed errors and addressed them instead of depriving these minorities of their rights, and these remedies are a basic demand of the overwhelming majority of its people and their religious and political authorities, which are:
First: Create records for these components’ connectors.
Second: Placing special boxes for them on this polling day ensures that the quota seats are not monopolized by others.
On February 21, the Federal Supreme Court issued a decision that the phrase “eleven” contained in Article 1 of the Iraqi Kurdistan Parliament Election Law No. 1 of 1992 was unconstitutional, making the text as follows: “The Kurdistan Parliament shall consist of one hundred members.”
